This ORN-funded, Faces & Voices of Recovery RCO Bootcamp is a 13-hour free training program for new and emerging Recovery Community Organization (RCO) directors, program managers and board members. The training covers all the basics to help build the capacity of small non-profit organizations. Breakout sessions focus on RCO start-up, governance, sustainability, policies and procedures, strategic planning, staff development and more.

Dec. 12: Treating HIV and Substance Use Disorder

This ORN-funded webinar is part of the National Alliance for HIV Education and Workforce Development's national webinar series Bridging HIV, HCV, and SUD: Innovations in the Field. The series highlights various innovative models and approaches to treating substance use disorder in people at risk for and living with HIV. This presentation will describe Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program’s innovative, multidisciplinary approach for engaging and treating people with HIV and substance use disorder who are simultaneously experiencing homelessness.

Dec. 12: Treating Stimulant Use Disorder

The ORN-funded training from the Boston Medical Center is designed to be a guide for addiction providers interested in providing and caring for people who use stimulants including cocaine and methamphetamines. The training will review the basic science of addiction related to stimulants as well as evidence-based treatment for people who use stimulants. The session will also talk about the practical implementation of evidence-based treatment for patients who use stimulants in the office-based addiction treatment setting.

This ORN-funded, Faces & Voices of Recovery, Recovery Ambassador Program is a free training that prepares individuals to advance public understanding and appropriate responses to addiction. The training program consists of Our Stories Have Power, Recovery Messaging, the Science of Addiction & Recovery and the Recovery Ambassador curriculum. Course material includes instruction in language and stigma, recruiting volunteers, building messages, organizing community action, engaging policymakers, raising money and effective advocacy.

Dec. 14: Stimulants 101

12/14/2021
This ORN-funded training from the Boston Medical Center is designed to provide an overview of stimulant use disorder for all healthcare organization staff including providers, nurses, counselors and other non-clinical staff. The training reviews stigma, identifying stimulant overdose, managing acute stimulant intoxication, de-escalation techniques, and evidence-based treatment for people who use stimulants.

Peer Services for Pregnant and Parenting Families

Note Multiple Events throughout January:

Jan. 4-5: Providing Peer Based Recovery Support Services for Pregnant and Parenting Families training: This two day training will better prepare Peer Recovery Support Specialists to meet the diverse needs of pregnant and parenting families in early recovery. Recovery and parenting both occur in the context of relationships. This training is designed to help participants build skills to support/strengthen families as they grow and develop in their roles as nurturing parents.

Jan 25-26: Training of Trainers (TOT): In this two day training Master Trainers will prepare participants to teach the Providing Peer Based Recovery Support Services for Pregnant and Parenting Families curriculum. Master Trainers will lead activities that reinforce learning and build the capacity of the participants to train others.

Note: Space is limited to 30 participants who will be selected via an application process. Training attendees do not have to participate in the TOT, but those interested in the TOT must participate in the prior two-day training. Priority will be given to those who are accepted for the TOT.

Jan 19 Medications for Opioid Use Disorder Academy

CADCA, an ORN partner organization, is hosting an ORN-funded, customized training for prevention coalitions about medications for opioid use disorder access. The cohort will then lead local coalition-based strategies in their home communities, including: 1) raising awareness of local treatment services; 2) spreading messaging including the centrality of treatment in overdose prevention; and 3) addressing barriers to treatment including stigma and prejudice. Stay tuned to the ORN Bulletin to learn about the outcomes from this important event!


Jan. 27: Indian Country Behavioral Health ECHO

1/27/2022
Each month, Indian Country ECHO offers an ECHO session with a multidisciplinary team focused on improving behavioral health services and patient outcomes. The ORN-funded program from the Northwest Portland Area Indian Health Board provides comprehensive information for clinicians to integrate evidence-based treatment with holistic, trauma informed and culturally appropriate care.
